Carlie and Clay’s Magically Epic Camp Waldemar Wedding in the Texas Hill Country
  • In a few sentences, describe your wedding!
Magically epic. The goal for our wedding was for our guests to have a fun-filled weekend at Camp Waldemar. We were able to celebrate with our family and friends beginning with an amazing Fiesta Rehearsal dinner on Friday night. On Saturday, we were able to enjoy the activities at Camp Waldemar. It was amazing to walk around camp and see everyone wearing their Wedding Weekend shirts while having a blast at camp. We had a beautiful and simple ceremony Saturday evening, and we finished the day with dancing and rewinding to the ’80s with the Spazmatics. The entire weekend was filled with fun because we were surrounded by the most amazing people. We wish we could have stopped time that weekend. It was absolutely perfect; we wouldn’t change anything.

  • Wedding Date
  • How did you two meet?
We knew each other through mutual friends. I had reached out to Clay when I heard about his dad’s quadruple bypass surgery with a simple text message of “thinking of you and your family.” I don’t think either of us expected it to turn into a lifetime together.
  • Wedding location (city/state or country)
  • Reception Venue
  • How did you choose your venues?
I have had the privilege to celebrate 23 out of 25 Thanksgivings at Waldemar. Waldemar holds a very special place in my heart, and I have always dreamed of having my wedding at Waldemar. My family and I are very blessed and thankful to be able to spend our Thanksgivings with our family at Waldemar.
  • Florals by:
  • Describe your flowers:
bridal bouquet- loose mix of natural greenery, ivory hydrangea, roses, spray roses, lisianthus, blush garden roses and blue thistle
bridesmaid bouquets- natural greenery, ivory china mums, spray roses, ivory lisianthus, and blue thistle
    Absolutely gorgeous
  • Describe your decor and how you chose it?
Our décor was natural and rustic. We wanted to keep the decorations similar to Camp Waldemar‘s decor. We used simple table decorations by having natural wood pieces, lanterns filled with flowers, tall cylinders with submerged flowers and floating candles, and votive candles as center pieces. We also placed rustic signs around the reception surrounded by our floral bouquets from the ceremony. One of our favorite decorations was our wedding neon sign by one of the bars.
  • Tell me about your attire – who designed your dress and where did you buy it?
My dress is by Essense of Australia. The wonderful Bridal Boutique in Lewisville, TX helped me find the most amazing dress. I had no idea what kind of dress I wanted, but I showed Amy from Bridal Boutique a few bridal pictures from Pinterest. She picked a few dresses for me to try on, but I ended up choosing the very first dress I tried on.
  • What shoes did you choose and what jewelry did you wear?
I didn’t want to spend a fortune on shoes that no one would see and probably wouldn’t wear again. I also needed shoes that were easy to walk in, especially on grass or on the riverbank. I found my shoes on sale for $30! I kept my jewelry very simple with tear drop earrings.
  • Any other significant accessories? Personal or handmade details?
I wore a seraphim halo (headpiece) designed by Thomas Knoell. I had the pleasure of meeting the designer when I picked up my headband in Lewisville. It was a cool experience. My wonderful neighbor made my veil to match my dress. My great friend and hair dresser, Holly Goeddertz, incorporated the headpiece and veil in my updo. It was simple, yet stunning.
I wore my grandmother’s garter. My mother also wore the same garter in her wedding 30 years ago.
  • Who did bride’s hair and makeup?
Holly Goeddertz, from Abilene, TX, did a stunning job with hair. Trace Lynn Jones, from San Antonio, TX, helped us look flawless with make-up. Everyone looked gorgeous.
  • Who designed the bridesmaids dresses? Where were they purchased?
Bill Levkoff designed the bridesmaid dresses and were purchased at Beside the Bride in Lewisville, TX.
  • Groom/ Groomsmen’s attire:
Dark gray tuxedos with marine blue vests and ties from Men’s Wearhouse
  • Bar Service & Signature drink?
Anne Marie’s Catering provided the bar service. The signature drink was the Southbound Greyhound (Deep Eddy Ruby Red Vodka, club soda, and lime garnish).
  • Catering & What foods were served at your wedding? Which was your favorite?
Anne Marie’s Catering from San Antonio, TX did a wonderful job for our reception. They served bacon wrapped and jalapeno stuffed chicken, focaccia bread with blackened beef, mushroom caps filled with spinach and parmesan, and fruit and cheese for cocktail hour. We had house salad, sirloin medallions with a mushroom sauce, glazed carrots, roasted potatoes, and rolls for the dinner.
  • Cake shop? Describe your cake. Did you have a grooms cake?
    Sophie’s Bakery in Fredericksburg, TX.
We had a beautiful, offset 5 tier cake with fresh flowers. Since Clay does not like chocolate, we went with alternating layers of carrot cake and white cake with raspberry filling with white buttercream frosting. The groom’s cake was delicious cheesecake with strawberries.
  • DJ/Band? The music: What was your first dance song? Father Daughter Dance? Mother Son? Any other special songs?
First dance song: “Makin’ Me Look Good Again” by Drake White
Mother/Son dance song: “Simple Man” acoustic version
Father/Daughter dance song: “Free Fallin” and “Running Down a Dream” by Tom Petty
    DJ: Craig with Groove Labs
    Band: The Spazmatics
  • Additional vendors not listed above:
Wedding Weekend T-shirts by CC Creations
    ILC Films: wedding videographers
Numerous friends, neighbors, and family helping with additional odds and ends.
  • Why did you choose me, Jackie , to be your wedding photographer?
Jackie was one of the suggested photographers from Viridian Design Group. I was incredibly impressed by her website for her creativity and unique shots. She was VERY helpful and easy to work with. She is very easy to talk to and made the entire picture taking experience fun. You can tell we were truly enjoying ourselves. She was awesome and the pictures are incredible.
  • What was one of your favorite moments from your wedding day?
We can’t pick just one favorite moment. The entire weekend was amazing.
  • What was your favorite image from your wedding day?
    They are all great!
  • Do you have any tips to share with other couples?
It is well worth the money to hire a wedding planner! Jodie, from Viridian Design Group, did a fantastic job planning, setting up, and keeping everything/everyone on schedule. It wouldn’t have been the same without her. I cannot thank her enough for this most amazing and wonderful weekend.
